Look what I found in the Cornell Daily Sun today!
How appropriate that this was published today after we just read Wansink's "Mindless Eating." This article is about how our increased portion sizes have been reflected in depictions of The Last Supper over the last 1000 years. Professor Wansink and his brother found a growing dominance of food in this famous painting as further proof of growing food quantities in our daily life. Who knew this change in our diets could make such a big impact in the world?

Yes, it is an interesting trend but with more wealth in the world it is truly bound to happen. People produce more food and have more money they eat more.
ReplyDeleteIt is crazy how we can track our eating behaviors all the way back to the Last Supper. The way that Wansink connects portion size and plate size to the "largest last supper" is innovative, but at the same time alarming for many health reasons. For one of my nutrition classes, we actually did read this publication, so I attached the pdf- just in case if you are interested in reading the whole study. Enjoy!

Really interesting to see how they determined this increase in portions (i.e. comparing food and plate size to head size). Thanks for sharing!
